Home Restoration: Don’t forget about electricity

As we expressed in previous occasions, home restoration means take down and rebuild in a majority of cases, and when that is the case, there is one issue that you need to be very careful of: electricity.

And we don’t only mean to be aware of where the wiring comes to the area you are restoring from the main panel and how are you making the new distribution in terms of outlets on the walls, lamp boxes on the ceiling, no, it goes further than that.

It is a must for anyone engaging in home restoration to have made floor plans and electrical plans before even starting, like we mentioned in previous posts, this is a critical step that, if not taken, can have disastrous results in the long run.

No, what we talk about is to make sure that the new circuitry that you’re making has been analyzed by a professional who can tell you if you, for example, can keep the same flip-on switch or if you need a bigger one to protect your home. Remember that the flip-ons are made to protect against short circuits and overloads, so it is important for you to know if you have the right one in your panel for the area you are restoring.

Also, included in your analysis you must take into account any electrical device you plan to set up in the new setting, like lamps, audio systems, tvs, consoles and so on, or, if it is a kitchen, whether or not you plan to install an electric stove or convection ovens, which demand a fair amount of power so that is something that you need to know. Critically.

As you can see, another critical point in home restoration is to take electricity into account so you can be aware of any changes that need to be made either in wiring, flip-ons, and so on. More in future posts.
