Paint Contractors: Covering up surfaces before painting

You know when Paint Contractors are at work because you will see that anything that is not going to be painted is covered either with plastic or with some piece of cloth. This is not to show off, there is a reason and we will discuss it today.

First of all let’s be clear on the fact that painting, no matter how careful you are, will have its spills here and there, specially when you work with brushes that absorb too much paint or with paint that is too thin.

Therefore one needs to be prudent, especially when you are working on someone else’s property, because you simply don’t know the value of the items they posses, either real or sentimental, and also because in some materials, especially those with porous surfaces (like rugs or untrained wood) will not just absorb paint, but will it do it a lot faster, ergo removing it will be literally impossible.

And this is especially true if you are working with oil based paint (and it is not that water based is easier to remove, it is not) which is not only harder to remove but that, you need to use solvents that will probably, if not for sure, will ruin the surface more than the paint itself did.

Now one very important thing is to know that if you are to cover surfaces when you paint (and you definitely should) you need to use impermeable materials because if you use normal cloth for example, the liquid, unless too thick, will pass through it and stain whatever is it that it finds under it.

If there are rugs present you better remove them for safekeeping. Remember, in paint contractors words, it is always better to be safe than sorry.

And also don’t forget to always contact a professional for the best advice on how to tackle this home renovation chores.
