Home Restoration: Pipes for cold and hot water

In our last article about home restoration we spoke about plumbing and the complexity of this matter when it comes to this kind of job. Well, another thing that you need to add to it is the fact that not all plumbing or pipes if you want, are made for all types of water in terms of temperature.

For a start let us take into consideration that cold water is not the same as hot water, specially when you have a water heater installed, pipes need to be made to resist high temperatures (212 degrees Fahrenheit on boiling water) and if you use the wrong type of piping the most probable thing that will happen is a rupture and a huge leak.

A hardware store specialist will be able to guide you on purchasing the right piping for any restoration job you perform, and this applies for all accessories like tees, couplers, and so on. All need to be for hot water if they are to be directly connected to the water heater or the mixer in the shower.

Don’t forget what we mentioned a while ago, depending on the use and type of pipes thus must be the adhesive you use, therefore ask your hardware store specialist about the right kind of adhesive for hot water pipes (don’t forget that most adhesives tend to weak upon high temperatures so this is a very critical matter).

Also, mention him which parts will be closer to the water heater as they will be subjected to the highest temperatures most of the time and ask them to suggest the best way to seal the unions.

All in all, working with plumbing in a home restoration project is always fun and something most people can do, but don’t forget, always go to the professionals when things are too big.
